The classic first walk. About 20 to 30 minutes uphill from Windermere village for a full panorama of lake and fells. Free, and best at sunset.
Waymarked walks straight from the lanes around the Lodge, through our 5-acre woodland and up to open fell with big views. Free.
Historic boats and steam launches on the lake shore at Bowness, about a 25-minute walk or short drive. Allow half a day.
A beautifully preserved Arts and Crafts house with lake views, about 10 minutes by car. A must if you love the style of our own house.
Windermere Lake Cruises run from Bowness piers to Lakeside and Ambleside. The best way to see England’s largest lake. Book ahead in summer.
Family favourite in Bowness, about 2 km away. Pair it with a lakeside stroll and lunch in the village.

Windermere station is on a branch line; change at Oxenholme Lake District for mainline trains. We have plenty of free on-site parking, while village car parks fill early on summer weekends.
Fell weather changes fast: carry a map, waterproofs and a charged phone. There are no streetlights on our lane, which means superb starry skies, so bring a torch for night walks.
